What is LME/MCO?
LME/MCO stands for Local Management Entity/Managed Care Organization. In North Carolina, these are local public entities that manage, authorize, and pay for state and federal services related to mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse for Medicaid beneficiaries. Their purpose is to connect individuals to services, manage provider networks, and ensure quality care while controlling costs.
